CMN.ATO.GEN.XML03 – A field contains invalid data, such as letters in a numeric or date field.

What does this mean?

This error occurs when a field in the tax return contains data that does not meet the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) validation requirements.

Note: This is an ATO constraint, so LodgeiT cannot bypass or avoid this validation.

Possible Causes:

1. Numeric fields contain invalid characters

  • Check for letters, symbols, or other special characters in fields that should contain numbers only.
  • Remove any unnecessary spaces or special characters and enter the value in the correct numeric format.

2. Name or Partnership text is too long

  • The Name or Partnership field must not exceed 76 characters.
  • Check the field and shorten the name if it exceeds the character limit.

How to Fix

  1. Review the tax return for the field identified by the error.
  2. Check numeric fields for letters, symbols, or other invalid characters.
  3. Check Name and Partnership fields and ensure they are 76 characters or fewer.
  4. Correct the information and try lodging the return again.

Tip: If the error continues after checking the above, review the return for any recently entered or imported information that may contain unsupported characters or formatting.
